Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Jetex, a UAE-headquartered business aviation services provider, to open the country’s first Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facility.

The new facility will be located at Tashkent-Vostochny Airport (ICAO: UZTP) and will offer a full suite of business aviation services, including MRO, sales, aircraft storage, air taxi operations, and VIP transfers.

The project will be implemented in partnership with the government of the Central Asian republic.

The FBO will become part of Jetex’s global network, which comprises more than 50 locations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Americas.

“The creation of over 200 highly skilled jobs in the business aviation sector is a key outcome of this project,” the Uzbek ministry said in a statement.

The agreement with the global provider underscores Uzbekistan’s growing appeal as a destination for business aviation. According to Mikhail Sokolov, country manager of National Charter Company, the number of business aviation flights in the country increased by 19% in 2023, reaching 2,600 movements. Of those, 84% originated or terminated in Tashkent — accounting for 1,614 international and 615 domestic flights.

Tashkent-Vostochny Airport is a former airfield of the now-defunct Tashkent Aviation Plant. Since 2017, it has been undergoing redevelopment as a dedicated government and private aviation gateway, including the renovation of its 4-km runway and the construction of a new apron, terminal, and hangars.
