Kazakhstan-based carrier SCAT Airlines continues to expand its route network from its primary hub, launching flights to Krasnoyarsk on December 26. This Russian airport, in turn, serves as the Siberian hub for Aeroflot Group, Russia’s largest airline.

SCAT will operate flights from Shymkent to Krasnoyarsk twice a week using Boeing 737MAX-9 aircraft. The carrier intends to offer passengers from Krasnoyarsk transit connections to international destinations in both the West and East that currently lack direct service from the Russian city, including Budapest, Munich, Tbilisi, Istanbul, Bangkok, Shanghai, Urumqi, Xi’an, and Seoul, as well as to major cities in Kazakhstan.

Krasnoyarsk became SCAT’s second Russian destination from Shymkent, following Moscow. Aeroflot also operates on this route. Additionally, another Russian carrier, the privately-owned S7 Airlines, flies to Shymkent from its Siberian hub in Novosibirsk.

The expansion of SCAT’s route network from Shymkent began following the opening of a new passenger terminal at the airport in December 2024, which increased the airport’s capacity tenfold.
