US government donates aviation security equipment to Uzbekistan airports
12 Leidos trace detectors to be deployed across the Central Asian country’s international airports
Uzbekistan Airports, the state-owned airport management company, has received 12 advanced Leidos trace detectors as a donation from the US government.
The handover of the screening equipment took place under the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program, with representatives from the US Embassy in Uzbekistan and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involved. The new equipment will be deployed across the Central Asian republic’s international airports.
The provided Leidos B220-HT detectors represent a new generation of aviation security tech. They are designed for the rapid detection of trace explosives and narcotics during the screening of cargo, mail, baggage, and passenger carry-ons.
These products use the latest in ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) analysis technology. This system is a robust solution with optimized software and hardware designed for checkpoints with high throughput or high sampling rates.
Uzbekistan Airports emphasized that the deployment of these systems will significantly improve screening efficiency, strengthen aviation security, and ensure the country’s airports continue to comply with strict international standards and recommended practices.
“We highly value the constructive cooperation with our American partners. Thanks to this collaboration, we are implementing joint projects aimed at adopting advanced technologies, enhancing the professional capacity of our specialists, and strengthening overall aviation security,” noted Bekhzod Yusupov, Deputy Chairman for Aviation Security and Compliance at Uzbekistan Airports.
