Developing connectivity within Central Asia, Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines is launching direct flights from Turkestan Hazret Sultan International Airport (HSA) to three cities in Uzbekistan: Urgench (UGC), Bukhara (BHK), and Samarkand (SKD).

Flights are slated to begin in December, with tickets already on sale, Uzbekistan Airports management company said.

The Turkestan—Urgench route is scheduled to launch on December 1, with three flights per week.

Turkestan—Bukhara service is planned to begin on December 2, also three times per week.

Flights from Turkestan to Samarkand will operate three times per week, starting December 3.

The flights will be operated by 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jets.

“In the initial phase, flights will be subsidized to ‘build a steady passenger flow,’ according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport. The launch of the routes is aimed at ‘developing tourism, promoting the cities of the Great Silk Road, enhancing regional transport connectivity, and encouraging an influx of foreign tourists.’”

Privately-run SCAT is the base carrier and operator of Shymkent Airport (CIT), which is located just 160 km from Turkestan.
