Kazakh airline SCAT has expanded its order for Boeing 737MAX-9 narrowbody aircraft. The carrier announced an order for five additional airliners of this modification and converted five of its seven previously ordered smaller 737MAX-8s into Boeing 737MAX-9s thus upgauging its fleet.

“Converting five of the previously ordered 737MAX-8s to 737MAX-9s, together with the new firm order for five 737MAX-9s, enhances our seating capacity per flight and will improve schedule reliability as we expand our international network,” said SCAT President Vladimir Denisov.

SCAT was the first airline in Central Asia to operate the Boeing 737MAX family.

Its fleet currently includes nine MAX-8s and five MAX-9s, along with previous-generation Boeing 737 aircraft.

With a capacity of up to 220 passengers and a range of 6,110 km, the Boeing 737-9 enables the carrier to operate flights from Kazakhstan to both Southeast Asia and Europe. Last December, SCAT launched a 14-hour flight from the Czech Republic to the Chinese resort island of Hainan with a technical stop in Bishkek.
