As part of the modernization of Uzbekistan’s aeronautical infrastructure, the air navigation service provider Uzaeronavigatsiya has commissioned an advanced air traffic surveillance system utilizing ADS-B and MLAT technologies.

This deployment marks the first time the national provider has implemented these combined technologies, representing a milestone for the Central Asian republic’s aviation sector.

The newly integrated system provides surveillance coverage over the Fergana Valley airspace. It is designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of air navigation services in a region known for its challenging orographic.

By offering a high-performance alternative to conventional radar, the system significantly improves monitoring capabilities in areas where traditional radar stations are difficult to deploy or cost-prohibitive. To further ensure reliability, the system leverages satellite technology for data processing and transmission, increasing the resilience of regional surveillance operations.

The technology suite combines two critical methods. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) relies on aircraft navigation systems to automatically transmit flight parameters, such as position, altitude, speed, and identification. Supplementing this, Multilateration (MLAT) calculates an aircraft’s precise position by measuring the time difference of signal arrival across a network of ground stations. Together, these technologies provide air traffic controllers with high-accuracy, continuous data.

Uzaeronavigatsiya confirmed that the project fully complies with international standards and ICAO recommendations, ensuring that Uzbekistan’s air navigation services remain aligned with global safety benchmarks.
