Following a year of negotiations, Uzbek national carrier Uzbekistan Airways and China Southern Airlines have finalized a bilateral code-share agreement.

Under the partnership, the carriers will place their respective codes on some routes connecting Uzbekistan and China. The agreement covers Uzbekistan Airways (HY) services from Tashkent to Beijing Daxing (PKX), Guangzhou (CAN), Urumqi (URC), and Hangzhou (HGH). In return, China Southern (CZ) will add its code to flights from Beijing Daxing, Guangzhou, and Urumqi to Uzbeki capital.

“China represents one of our primary growth markets,” said Umid Khusanov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board at Uzbekistan Airways. “Partnering with China Southern will significantly enhance our market position across Asia.”

Uzbekistan Airways management expects the deal to drive transit traffic through its Tashkent hub, furthering its strategic goal of positioning the airport as a key crossroads connecting Europe and Asia.

For China Southern, the alliance accelerates its regional expansion strategy across Central Asia, building on its existing code-share with Kazakh flag carrier Air Astana and a recently launched route into Kyrgyzstan.

“Partnering with Uzbekistan Airways allows us to strengthen our regional network, diversify our commercial offerings, and provide new momentum for the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative,” added Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy General Manager of China Southern’s Commercial Steering Committee.
