Tajikistan’s air connectivity shrinks by 13% over decade
The decline comes amid rapid growth in neighboring Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan
Between 2015 and 2025, Tajikistan’s scheduled air route network contracted by 13%, dropping from 64 to 56 destinations, according to the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) report Regional Air Connectivity in Tajikistan: A 2025 Snapshot.
Furthermore, the number of air routes fell by 7% between 2024 and 2025 alone. During this period, five new routes were added, while flights were resumed on only one previously suspended destination. All of the discontinued routes had an annual capacity of fewer than 20,000 seats.
Last year, 15 airlines operated in the Tajik market, five fewer than in 2015. Scheduled flights were served by four airports across the country.

The vast majority of the routes—77%—were medium-haul, spanning distances between 1,500 and 4,000 km. Short-haul routes (500–1,500 km) accounted for 13%, regional routes (under 500 km) made up 7%, and long-haul flights (over 4,000 km) constituted 4%.
The contraction of Tajikistan’s air connectivity occurred against the backdrop of rapid expansion in neighboring countries over the past decade, with Uzbekistan’s network growing by 89% and Kazakhstan’s by 49%.
