Central Asian airlines find a partner in Serbia

Central Asian airlines have begun using the Serbian capital, Belgrade, as a transit hub for transporting passengers and cargo further into Europe. To facilitate this, two airlines from the region have signed interline agreements with the Serbian carrier, Air Serbia. The latter currently lacks the capacity to fly to Central Asia itself but possesses a developed route network across Europe and North America.

In Uzbekistan, Air Serbia signed an interline agreement with the country’s largest cargo carrier, My Freighter. The agreement is aimed at optimizing cargo delivery routes from Uzbekistan to Europe and beyond.

“By linking our strengths with Air Serbia’s growing network, we are reinforcing My Freighter’s mission to position Tashkent as a dynamic cargo hub bridging East and West,” noted the Uzbek airline.

Over the past two years, My Freighter has expanded its fleet to nine aircraft: eight Boeing 767-300Fs and one Boeing 757F, and has established interline partners worldwide. In Europe, it already has similar agreements with Air Europa (Spain), Icelandair Cargo (Iceland), and the Challenge Group, which holds operating certificates in Belgium and Malta.

Previously, the second-largest carrier in Kazakhstan, SCAT Airlines, concluded an interline agreement with Air Serbia. In early November, SCAT launched the first-ever direct flights between Astana and Belgrade. The partnership with the Serbian carrier will allow travelers from Kazakhstan to book a single ticket with a stopover in Belgrade to 29 European cities within its route network, including Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, and others.
