Main Armenian airport completes renovation of runway and taxiway, allowing 35% increase in aircraft movements
Yerevan airport enhances operational efficiency
Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport (IATA: EVN) renovated and opened a sizable section of main runway and taxiway, allowing to “significantly enhance” Armenia’s main gateway’s operational efficiency, Armenia International Airports, management company said.
The previously inactive 53,200sqm (1,400 m x 38 m) section between Apron 1 (MTWY) and Taxiway Alpha (TWY A) has been fully renovated and is now operational, following a 50-year period of disuse.
This will allow for more optimal ground movement of aircraft, increasing the total number of aircraft movements by about 35%, reducing congestion, and boosting the overall number of aircraft/flights served by the airport.
The section is designed to accommodate the movement of heavy cargo aircraft and can also serve as an additional evacuation route.
This development is a key component of the airport’s ongoing development program.
