Azerbaijan Airlines to launch fourth destination in Kazakhstan
Azeri flag carrier to serve Baku–Shymkent route
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is set to expand its footprint in Kazakhstan with the launch of its fourth destination in the country. Starting June 16, the Azerbaijani flag carrier will begin operating flights from Baku to Shymkent, located in the southern part of the Central Asian nation.
The 2.5-hour flights will be operated using Embraer 190 regional jets. Initially, the airline will offer two weekly flights, with the frequency increasing to three flights per week starting June 30.
Azerbaijan Airlines currently serves three other Kazakh cities: the capital Astana, as well as Almaty and Aktau. Following the launch of the Shymkent route, Kazakhstan will become Azerbaijan Airlines’ second-largest international market, trailing only Turkey (where the carrier serves five destinations).
