Thai AirAsia X, the Thai subsidiary of the Asian budget carrier, has announced a significant reduction in capacity across its network. The adjustments include a decrease in flight frequencies to Almaty, Kazakhstan, alongside the suspension of several other routes. The carrier characterized these measures as a necessary strategic realignment in response to geopolitical instability in the Middle East, with the sharp escalation in jet fuel costs cited as a primary driver.

The capacity reductions will affect flights departing from the LCC’s hub in Bangkok to Almaty, Delhi, Osaka, and Tokyo.

Service between Bangkok and Kazakhstan’s largest city was inaugurated on December 3 of last year. Flights are operated using Airbus A330 widebody aircraft at a frequency of four flights per week.

Thai AirAsia X (IATA code: XJ) had previously suspended services from Bangkok to Shanghai and Riyadh.

As of early 2026, the carrier’s network comprised 10 international destinations, supported by a fleet of 11 Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
