On May 3, Air Serbia made an inaugural flight between the capitals of Serbia and Azerbaijan. The service to Baku will operate twice weekly using Airbus A319 narrow-body aircraft.

“This route is a direct response to the growing need for stronger connectivity between the Balkans and the Caucasus region, which will strengthen Belgrade’s position as a regional transport hub of Southeast Europe. Air Serbia remains committed to its mission of connecting regions and peoples, and the Baku route is a logical step in our strategy of expanding the destination network,” noted Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek.

Baku has become Air Serbia’s second destination in the South Caucasus. The carrier also operates flights from Belgrade to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, three times a week.

Earlier in April Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) signed a codeshare agreement with Serbian carrier, allowing it to place its code on Air Serbia-operated services, providing passengers with more booking and travel opportunities.

During the summer season, Azerbaijan Airlines’ only destination in the Balkans is the resort town of Tivat in Montenegro.
