Air China, the national flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China, has launched direct scheduled flights between Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK/BJS) and Bishkek’s Manas International Airport (FRU). With this move, Air China becomes the second operator on the route connecting the Chinese and Kyrgyz capitals.

The service operates three times a week using Airbus A321 narrowbody aircraft, according to Airports of Kyrgyzstan, the state-owned airport management company. The new flights will complement the existing operations of another major Chinese carrier, China Southern Airlines, which serves the capital route six times a week via Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX).

The launch reflects a broader, aggressive expansion by Chinese airlines into the Central Asia and South Caucasus regions. In Kyrgyzstan alone, China Southern expanded its footprint earlier this year by introducing a Guangzhou–Bishkek route, while Chengdu Airlines launched scheduled flights between Kashi (Kashgar) and Osh. Additionally, China Southern continues to operate its well-established services linking Urumqi with both Bishkek and Osh, and low-cost carrier Loong Air maintains operations on the Chengdu–Bishkek sector.

The Chinese presence in the Kyrgyz aviation market is poised for further growth. Following recent high-level talks between Airports of Kyrgyzstan management and China Eastern Airlines, discussions are underway to establish a direct scheduled service between Shanghai and Bishkek.
