Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov presents the integrated infrastructure development concept for Fergana Airport to Shavkat Mirziyoyev: Press service of the President of Uzbekistan

Fergana is set to become the next airport in Uzbekistan to undergo a comprehensive modernization.

The infrastructure development concept for Fergana Airport (FEG) – one of the country’s five largest gateways – was presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his visit to the Fergana region, according to the presidential press service.

Plans include extending and widening the runway, upgrading airfield infrastructure, and constructing new passenger and cargo terminals.

The number of aircraft parking stands will increase to ten.

The new passenger terminal, spanning approximately 20,000 sq m, will be capable of handling up to 1,200 passengers per hour – double the current capacity.

The statement emphasizes that, for the design, construction, and subsequent management of the new terminal, the plan is to engage ‘foreign operators with relevant experience.’

No timeline for the project has been disclosed.

Modernization of the airport has become an urgent necessity. The existing terminal has been in service for over 30 years, and its capacity and passenger comfort levels no longer meet contemporary standards.

Last summer, managing company Uzbekistan Airports completed the renovation and expansion of the departure lounge. This year, major repair work began on the apron surface.

The airport’s development is strategically important given the region’s rising economic activity and growing tourist flows.

Fergana is one of three international airports serving the densely populated Fergana Valley – alongside Andijan and Namangan. The region is home to approximately 12 million people, nearly one‑third of Uzbekistan’s population.

In 2025, Fergana Airport handled 693,400 passengers, a 19% year‑on‑year increase. In the first quarter of this year, 161,200 passengers were served, of which 142,600 were on international routes.
