Uzbekistan Airways Technics performs inaugural on-wing testing of GEnx-1B engine

Uzbekistan Airways Technics, the leading MRO provider in Central Asia, has successfully conducted its first-ever testing of a GEnx-1B engine following repair work. The tests were performed as “on-wing” procedures on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, under the supervision of a General Electric official representative.

Prior to this milestone, the company’s specialists completed an intensive training course and obtained the necessary international certifications. Additionally, the provider has mastered “engine split” procedures, as well as the mating and unmating of GEnx-1B engine components.

The implementation of this technology will allow the Uzbek provider to drastically cut the time required for shipping, overseas repair, and return of these engines—a process that previously took between three and six months.

“The transportation itself was a complex logistical challenge, requiring specialized heavy-lift cargo aircraft. Now, thanks to the mastered technology, the engine can be transported in a disassembled state using standard cargo aircraft. This radically simplifies logistics and enables us to resolve complex technical and operational tasks as promptly as possible,” said Minur Beshatov, Director of the Continuing Airworthiness Department at Uzbekistan Airways.

UAT provides maintenance for Boeing 787 aircraft on behalf of its parent carrier, Uzbekistan Airways. The airline’s fleet currently includes six 787-8 variants. In late 2025, the carrier placed a firm order for 22 of the higher-capacity 787-9 aircraft.
