AirAsia X to temporarily suspend Tashkent service
But plans to resume in a month with an increased frequency
Malaysian long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X has announced a temporary suspension of its flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Tashkent (TAS) for the period of June 1 to June 30. The budget airline initially launched the route connecting the capitals of Malaysia and Uzbekistan in October 2025, operating three weekly frequencies.
Service is scheduled to resume on July 1, with an increased frequency of four flights per week.
This move follows a capacity reduction by its Thai sister carrier, Thai AirAsia X, on the Bangkok–Almaty (ALA, Kazakhstan) route. Industry sources attribute these tactical adjustments to ongoing geopolitical instability in the Middle East, which has triggered volatility in jet fuel prices and localized supply constraints.
The shifts in the Central Asian market extend beyond LCCs. Turkish Airlines is also set to suspend its regional services to secondary cities in the region by the end of May, specifically cutting routes from Istanbul to Fergana (FEG) in Uzbekistan and Turkestan (HSA) in Kazakhstan.
