Kazakhstan’s route map expands by nearly 50% over decade
Air services in the Central Asian republic now cover 295 routes
Between 2015 and 2025, Kazakhstan’s scheduled air route network expanded by 48%, growing from 200 to 295 destinations, according to the Regional Air Connectivity in Kazakhstan: A 2025 Snapshot report published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Over the past year alone, the number of routes rose by 12%. During this period, 34 new routes were launched, and operations were restored on 20 out of 22 previously suspended routes.
Currently, 22 airports across the country handle regular scheduled flights. The Kazakh market is served by 42 airlines, up by eight carriers compared to 2015. However, 72% of all routes remain operated by a single carrier.

The bulk of the country’s network consists of medium-haul (1,500–4,000 km) and short-haul (500–1,500 km) sectors, accounting for 42% and 37% of the total network, respectively. Long-haul destinations (over 4,000 km) make up 11%, while thin regional routes under 500 km account for the remaining 9%.
Notably, Kazakhstan boasts the most extensive air route network in Central Asia. In neighboring Uzbekistan, flights are operated to just 206 destinations, though its network has seen a massive 89% growth since 2015, according to IATA. Tajikistan’s network encompasses 56 routes, which is eight fewer than it had in 2015.
