Kazakhstan’s Air Astana to launch direct flights to Cyprus

Air Astana is set to become the first Kazakh airline to operate scheduled flights to Cyprus. The carrier announced that direct seasonal services to the resort city of Larnaca will operate twice weekly from both Astana and Almaty, running from early June to early September this year. The routes, which range from five to six hours in duration, will be served by Airbus A321LR narrowbody jets.

Kazakhstan and Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Understanding on air services in March 2024. The agreement allows designated carriers from each side to operate up to seven flights per week. Kazakh airlines are authorized to fly to Larnaca and Paphos, while Cypriot carriers may operate flights to Astana and Almaty. A year ago, SCAT, Kazakhstan’s second-largest carrier, also announced intentions to launch Almaty–Larnaca flights in 2026–2027.

According to Kazakh authorities, as of 2025, the Central Asian nation maintained air connection with 30 countries across 135 international routes. In addition to Larnaca, officials expect the launch of 14 more international destinations this year: Abu Dhabi (UAE), Amman (Jordan), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Warsaw (Poland), Vienna (Austria), Delhi (India), Kashgar, Xi’an, Urumqi, Shanghai (China), Riga (Latvia), Rome (Italy), Tokyo (Japan), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
